Workshop Description:
Calvin Liang's teaching will focus on painting at location from
direct observation to achieve better understanding of composition,
design and color harmony. The lessons will cover 1) planning a
composition effectively to express the artist's intentions and
preferences; 2) seeing and using warm and cool colors in landscape;
3) commanding hard and soft edges to create space effect; 4) Utilizing
design, value, color, and drawing skills to simplify the subject
matter 5) consideration of paint texture and brushstroke orientation
to generate forms; and 6) getting the best possible results within
a limited time.
Artist Bio:
Calvin Liang was professionally trained at Shanghai Academy of
Fine Arts in China. After moved to US in 1987, Liang had a successful
career in Walt Disney and Nichelodeon Studios worked on Little
Mermaid and SpongeBob Squarepants. Becoming a full-time fine artist
in 2002, Liang has won multiple top awards in major art shows
including Annual C. M. Russell, OPA Nationals, PAPA Invitational,
and more. American Art Collectors, Southwest Art, American Artist,
and Workshop Magazine have featured frequently Liang's work. In
2004 Liang's work graced the cover of the Art of the West's special
16th Anniversary Edition. Calvin Liang is a Mast Member of the
Oil Painters of America and American Impressionist Society, and
Signature Member of California Art Club and Laguna Plein Air Painters
Association. His paintings are showing in the Greenhouse Galleries
in San Antonio, and other major galleries. Calvin Liang lives
with his wife and son in Southern California.
